#ScotAppWeek18 – Ryan Cockburn – My Apprentice Story
Whilst in 3rd year at school we got the opportunity to do a week’s work experience and I opted to shadow an electrician for the week. I really enjoyed this and decided that I wanted to become an electrician when I left school.
I finished 6th year at school and then attended Borders College on a pre-apprenticeship course for a year before labouring for an electrician for a couple of years. As I couldn’t find an opportunity to train as an electrician I decided to go back to Borders College to undertake an engineering course and it was at that point I was offered the opportunity of Apprentice Electrician with Waverley Housing. I thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship and benefited from the advice of my mentor throughout the apprenticeship. I was delighted to pass my exams and become a qualified electrician at the end of last year.
Waverley now employee me on a full time, permanent contract and I love the work I do!
